Sooooo, I suck so much at blogging. When I came to Georgia I said I was going to blog all the time. I’m a lazy, lazy person. Zarmatsi var dzalian!! Really I just don’t think there’s too much interesting going on to write about, and I’m not the best writer in the world. So add those together and you have one lazy blogger. I haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions, but I think this is the best time:
New Years Resolutions
1. Achieve Advanced-low in Georgian
2. Begin studying and achieve Intermediate-mid in Russian (I just started learning this week)
3. Plan interesting and engaging lesson plans
4. Get back into a good exercise routine
5. Read 50 books
6. Blog twice a week, and work on becoming a better writer
I think that’s a good list. So there’s not a lot going on now. My trip to Egypt was really fun, and it was awesome seeing my family. There were times I forgot I was a volunteer in Georgia, and just on vacation with my family. I also switched houses, I don’t want to write too much about it here, but I want everyone to know I’m much happier.
Now there have been some sad things. My grandmother (well step-grandmother, but grandmother to me), Nola, passed away a few days ago. Nola was such a kind and amazing woman, and loved all of us very much. I knew the last time I saw her in April that it’d probably be the last time I’d see her. So we made some toasts here at my new house for Nola, but I will miss her very much.
Now, on to other things. School started again last week. It’s back to the grind of the day-to-day, but one awesome thing about my mom in the US being a teacher… she sends me fun activities and games for the students. We played Bingo today, and my students were about to pee their pants in excitement. It’s refreshing to see young kids getting involved. My older students are still a handful. I think most are now at the point where they will pass their exams at the end of the year, but I’m not sure they like me very much.
So I’m also looking into new projects here in Keda. I’m looking into organizing inter-school sports competition, getting computers shipped here from the USA, raising money for and fixing the bathrooms in school. I’ve been working with a former volunteer and we got money to build up the science department with new beakers, test-tubes and a new periodic table of elements. Maybe my older sister Mary can hook me up with a laser or something… those can be FedEx’d, right? We also got money to bring professionals to the schools to talk to students about their job. One of the best things was money to help a village family start a bee farm for income.
So hopefully I’ll be writing more frequently, and this blog will become more interesting. Goodbye all.
Look at you saying you have nothing interesting going on - liar. First off, I am really sorry for your grandmother passing. I hope you keep her in your fondest memories forever :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, I am so proud of you!!! you told me that you felt as though you weren't making a difference in the kids lives but i think you're taking major steps in doing just that. i hope you continue to do so as you find funding and put it into helping the school. it's really awesome that you helped a family start a bee farm - i am sure they will be forever grateful.
i am also happy to hear that you've moved into a better place - tell me the details when you get a chance. i think new years resolutions are silly and don't last more than two weeks - so just do what you wana tom and don't worry about being a lazy blogger- just remember to email irina and you'll be fine :D
Irina pretty much said it all. Ditto.
ReplyDeleteHey Sir ~ looks like you and I both hit that writing / blogging slump. It's funny how after a while life in Georgia just becomes life in Georgia. Also, I'm sorry to hear about your grandmothers passing. My grandmother passed away last July and it was hard not being home for the family and everything else - I know what you're going through and it's not easy. You have many friends around you for whatever you need though. Anyhow, keep on doing with what you are doing - sounds like you are making some really great progress! See you soon hopefully.

Hey! Tom! Vasav sent me your blog a while ago, I just got around to visiting. It's lovely - it sounds like you're having a great experience.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your grandmother.
I shall drop by more often now that I've found my way here! :)
